THE IDEA
May 2018

Please don't expect a fairytale story.

One afternoon, organisers Owen and Taylor were in McDonald's - of course. They had an idea that one day we'd bring a group of friends together and play a charity football match. At the time it was a pipe dream. Just an idea on the table.

We had friends who could play on the home side but we needed an opponent. Enter Dan Joseph and his red army.

Fast forward to April 2019, the kits arrived. An all black attire for home side Alliance XI and all red for Riverhawks United. It was starting to feel real.

After 13 months of planning and preparation, it was matchday on June 29th 2019. After 90 minutes of great football and entertainment for the hundreds in attendance, we realised what we had achieved.

We hadn't only proved we could organise an event like this but we had raised £2,500 for Cancer Research UK.

Roll on 2020.

CRISIS
February 2020

No one needs to be bored with the facts of what was waiting for us in the years to come.

Round 2 was looking promising for an August 2020 date but as Spring neared we realised just how serious everything was.

The charity match was therefore cancelled.

We eyed up 2021 but it just wasn't the right time. The world was still on the mend and we couldn't guarantee everyone's safety.

NEW BEGINNINGS
September 2022

It had been 3 years since the first charity match but we were still determined to give it one last shot. 2023 looked promising.

Now with 4 organisers onboard, adding Jacob Hinchliffe to the list, we locked in June 10th 2023.

However, we couldn't just be called 'Eastbourne Charity Football Match' forever. We can thank Dan Joseph for the new brand name: Kick Cancer Out.

Now with a brand, we could really start to make a marketing push and increase interest in the game.

ONE LAST PUSH
April 2023

With just over 2 months to go, it was time to look for help from local businesses who would become an integral part of the success of the charity game.

Our sponsorship programme launched with an amazing turnout. Kick Cancer Out was about to get one helluva launch come June.

The final push to matchday started to feel real now.
